App Essentials: Marketing Student and Gridfiti Founder
Discussing App Essentials with Nicolas:
I’m always connected either through my phone or laptop and this has a lot to do with my field of study and the things I do on a daily basis. Working and studying in marketing requires me to stay up-to-date with trends and social network news. I find myself using a variety of different applications to accomplish many tasks and figured it would be an interesting topic to share with others.
First off, the technology that I use on an everyday basis consists of:
- iPhone 6
- Macbook Pro 13″ 8GB Memory i5 Processor
Social Media App Essentials:
Use this app every chance I get. Emphasizes the whole quality over quantity and I find a lot of my inspiration from my Instagram feeds. Hands down my most used and loved app.
Youtube
Online video is growing significantly and YouTube has been occupying a lot of my time recently. I follow videographers and filmmakers such as Ben Brown, Casey Neistat, Sam Evans, Justin Escalona, and many more. It’s something with vlogging, strong editing, and amazing storytelling that really gets me. These people inspire me and my work with Gridfiti. Expect some big things coming on YouTube with Gridfiti sometime in the near future.
Anchor.fm
A new app that I came across about a month ago. Great UI and the concept of having a Twitter like platform with voice recording gives it a genuine feel. The objective of Anchor is to be a user generated radio platform and I love it.
Should be using this platform much more than I currently am, but it’s a great way to contact people and companies. I find the feed to be cluttered for my liking, but a great business development tool.
Use this to keep up with my social circle. Always open in the background and probably open on yours too.
Snapchat
Another great way to keep up with your social circle and the influential people you follow. The real time, in the moment feeling that Snapchat gives is like no other.
Reading App Essentials:
Medium
Medium is a blogging platform that has a wonderful design and great content. Highly recommend you subscribe to Medium’s daily digest. No matter what subject you are interested in, Medium will provide you with the right content that will leave you more educated and in awe.
Gmail
Email. Emails. Emails. Whether they are Gridfiti related, work related, or school related. I can always be doing something on this app. From responding emails and to reaching out to others, my mornings are easily occupied by Google Mail.
Music App Essentials:
SoundCloud
Tough for me to be away from this app. SoundCloud is almost always playing in the background. This platform is used for me to follow my favourite artists, while allowing me to explore and discover new artists. Music is my muse and SoundCloud facilitates it.
Spotify
I mainly use Spotify for my mainstream music and for the wonderful user generated playlists. Anything that is copyright and not listed on SoundCloud is 9 out of 10 times on Spotify.
Camera App Essentials:
GoPro
I have the GoPro Hero Session 4 and this app is great for shooting timelapses and monitoring footage.
VSCO
Definitely, my favourite picture editing app. Some simple colour correction on Adobe Lightroom and throwing a VSCO filter on the photo makes it look much better.
Miscellaneous Apps:
Solar
Nothing brings more positivity than some great weather. This app is beautifully designed and properly educates me on the hourly weather, wherever I am in the world. If you’re a design geek, you’ll love this app.
Google Maps
I’m horrible with directions and hate traffic. Google Maps is my go-to-app for directions and allows me to manage my time properly by giving me precise destination times.
Uber
A must have app for those nights that public transportation just won’t cut it.
Hope you guys enjoyed this segment, if this is something that you would like to see more of, drop a comment below! Thanks for reading and if you have any app suggestions, feel free to let me know in the comments as well!
