Mortal but Invincible, Yee-Haw!

Austin-based, industrial punk Band, the ‘Skatenigs‘ is a band that has not been heard from in far too long. However, rumor has it that will soon change. This coming year marks the bands 25th Anniversary of their definitive hit “CHEMICAL IMBALANCE” and according to singer/front man Phil Owen, they are going to be pulling out all the stops to celebrate!

Born and raised in Austin, Texas, singer Phil “Phildo” Owen hit the Austin music scene in 1985. After landing a job as a DJ for ‘Club Iguana‘, Owen would soon be advised by the front man for industrial metal band, Ministry Al Jourgensen, that he should really think about “starting a band”. Hence, the Skatenigs were born and away they went. The band was signed by MEGAFORCE RECORDS and in 1992, they recorded the album that would put them on the map; ‘STUPID PEOPLE SHOULDN’T BREED‘ featuring their hit song, Chemical Imbalance. The Skatenigs also toured with similar bands such as GWAR, FEAR and MINISTRY among others. Owen is also featured on the album, “Steers, Beers, and Queers” by The Revolting Cocks which was Al Jourgensen’s brief side project.

To celebrate CHEMICAL IMBALANCE, Embassy Skateboards announced their soon-to-be released,  Special Edition SKATENIGS’ Skateboard for 2016, as a tribute to the 25th Anniversary release. Owen plans on organizing a tour beginning in the fall of 2016, as well as a special  re- release of ‘CHEMICAL IMBALANCE’ with the addition of a new, bonus track entitled, “WEAPONS OF ASS DESTRUCTION”. When asked what advice he would offer, Owen simply said “Get a therapist and midget roadies- they are space savers!”
