Chairman of the Ashanti Regional Peace Council, Prof. Seth Opuni Asiamah
Professor Seth Opuni Asiamah is the Chairman of the Ashanti Regional Peace Council, who has stated that, the resources must be made available to council for performance of its functions, if Ghana is serious about having an efficient and effective National Peace Council.
According the Professor Asiamah, “If we are serious about having a Peace Council, then the State should established them by an Act of Parliament have to be able to make resources accessible for the council to work.”
He said, they have challenges as an effect of lack of the essential funding, if they are doing their best.
Professor Asiamah who was speaking to the media, further added that the issue of funding also existed at the state level.
“It is not just us, at the national level we have such limitation and it goes through the other areas where we have the Peace Council.”
To promote peace in the country the National Peace Council was made under the National Peace Council Act 818 of 2011 and to deliver for linked purposes and the expenditures of the council are charged unto the connotation fund according to the Act and Section 23.
In the Ashanti Region, the Regional Peace Council initiated a 2 day-tour at some Limited Voters Registration centers to make certain the level of stability at the several centers and recommended the party agents present on confirming free and fair elections.
Later, Mr. Serebour Quaicoo, the Regional Director of the Electoral Commission called on the council call, on their responses at the different centers they visited.
Professor Asiamah speak the Council had instructed the Director to rather move the board to the areas where the challenges were made to make them effortlessly available to persons who were challenged.
