Abu Ramadan’s suit against EC thrown

The Supreme Court has discharged an application for the proposal of fresh evidence by 2 politicians pursuing to challenge the reliability of Ghana’s voters’ Register onward of the 2016 general elections.

The discharge of the application clears the way for the court to agree on the applicable case on Thursday May 5, 2016.

The 2 opposition politicians, a NPP Youth Leader, Kwame Baffoe and a former youth leader of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Abu Ramadan have been claiming that the voters’ register in its present state is not appropriate to be used for the November election.

Since the Electoral Commission refused a demand to collect a new voters’ register, the 2 politicians are disagreeing that it should at least bearing an exercise to clean up names considered ineligible to be on the roll for the elections.

This confirmation process, they say would be estimated a settlement after months of pressure from opposition parties on the EC resolute to bow the pressure.

There are voters on the register who used an illegal National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) card to register, but the Electoral Commission (EC) has speaks it can recognize the names of those registrants.

Counsel for the 2, Nana Bedietuo Asante realistic to introduce fresh confirmation which suggested that the EC sat to the Apex court when it indicated that it can identify such voters on the electoral roll.

The lawyer speaks they are in control of a Tape Recording of Deputy EC chairpersons, Georgina Opoku Amankwaah and Ahmadu Sulley admitting that it cannot decide who registered with the NHIS card and that its database taken no such information.

But the Supreme Court at its session Tuesday totally dismissed the application saying it has no value, therefore refusing the application for the compliance of the tape recording.

The 7-member panel has suspended the case to May 5, to rule on the basic issue.
