South Korea’s 3D photo craze

Life-like three-dimensional figurines are the latest craze in South Korea. Natasha Howitt reports.

This little two-year-old is about to have his Photo taken… by one hundred cameras.

Forget selfies – this is South Korea’s latest Photo Craze.

They are capturing Chae Eun-sung in 3D, and – in one to two days – his mother Lim Su-jung will have a figurine much like one of these.

“I really wanted a 3D figure of my son to show him when he’s older what I can’t capture in photos right now,” she says.

Ashley Yaworski is an American student studying in Seoul …

She’s sending this to her boyfriend back in the U.S.

Pets frequent this printing firm too…

This dog’s owner wants to remember him at his best age.

The photos taken in the store act as a digital blueprint.

At a plant in southwestern Seoul, the figures are then built in layers using gypsum powder.

They are a slightly more costly alternative to selfies though…

One of these will set you back $100 to $300.
