Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan told over a million supporters at a rally in Istanbul that July’s Failed Coup only makes Turkey stronger.
It was a show of strength by Erdogan, who has been angered by Western criticism of his heavy-handed response to the attempted coup.
He told the crowd that he’d do whatever it took to protect the country.
It was this man… U.S.-based cleric Fethullah Gulen, who Turkey blames for masterminding the coup attempt.
Erdogan’s show of support spilled over to Washington, D.C., where hundreds gathered outside the White House to call on President Barack Obama to extradite Gulen to Turkey.
“He must send Fethullah Gulen, that is the biggest message.”
“We want to make sure that everyone knows that Fethullah Gulen basically has done very bad things to Turkey and the people.”
Obama has insisted that an extradition request would have to go through normal channels.
Gulen has condemned the attempted coup and denied any involvement… an assertion unlikely to please these protesters any time soon.
