A Dutch man spent 10 days waiting at an airport in central China to meet a girl he met on the internet.

Alexander Pieter Cirk arrived at the airport on July 17, hoping to meet a 26-year-old woman called Zhang.

He claims he met Zhang online a little over two months ago and wasn’t going to leave until his “girlfriend” arrived at the airport.

Airport authorities said he had done a similar thing two years ago waiting for another girl he had met over the internet.

After ten days of waiting, with little to eat or drink but instant ramen noodles and soft drinks, Cirk, who suffers from diabetes, was hospitalised due to heart and kidney problems.

On August 1, he finally departed for home in the Netherlands.
