African animals for sale, pigeons make art

Drought pushes Zimbabwe authorities to sell wildlife. In New York City, pigeons dazzle the skies with an artistic light show. Jillian Kitchener reports.

These are not small animals. And this is not a small sale.

Zimbabwe Park Authorities are encouraging citizens that can to buy these wild ones and save them from devastating drought.

Some people have a family tradition of collecting wild animals. Like this Egyptian zookeeper, who says he hunts snakes in the desert, and brings creatures face-to-face with hundreds of visitors each month.

Some are more charming than others.

It’s safe to come out now. A medical check was deemed necessary this week for four baby Humboldt penguins, born at a Paris Zoo.

Officials say it’s important for the vulnerable species to lead a happy and healthy lifestyle.

Likewise for these endangered Asian elephants. The final 11 Ringling Bros. circus elephants retired to a Florida conservation center this week, saying goodbye to a razzle dazzle circus tradition and hello to the good life

In the name of art, thousands of LED-equipped pigeons took to New York City skies this week.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) DUKE RILEY, ARTIST AND CREATOR OF “FLY BY NIGHT,” SAYING:

“I think it is a collaborative project between me and the pigeons… Exactly whether it is a performance or some type of, maybe it’s just a drawing that they are doing in the sky.”

Whatever it was, guests say they were impressed by the birds… well-known on the streets of Manhattan and now in the skies.
