Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, fresh off her primary victory in South Carolina, promised young people on Sunday (February 28) that she would work for them to help Remove Barriers that she said are preventing their generation from achieving their dreams.
“You deserve an economy, a government and a political system that works to give you the best future you can achieve,” Clinton told supporters at a campaign event in Nashville, Tennessee. “And I know, especially for those who came of age during the Great Recession, who are saddled with student debt, who feel like you’re in a dead-end job with no relief in sight that it can be discouraging. I get it.”
“But I will work every single day to make sure I Remove every barrier that stands in your way, so you can follow your dreams,” she added.
South Carolina was Clinton’s third victory in the first four Democratic contests, raising more questions about whether Senator Bernie Sanders, a democratic socialist, will be able to expand his support beyond his base of predominantly white liberals.
Exit polls showed Clinton winning big in the state with almost every constituency. She won nine of every 10 black voters, as well as women, men, urban, suburban, rural, very liberal and conservative voters. Sanders was ahead among voters between ages 18 and 29, and among white men.
The two will face off again on Tuesday when 11 states will hold nominating contests for the Democrats, while 12 states hold contests for the Republicans.
