U.S. to withhold some Clinton emails with top secret information

Seven of former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s private email chains will be withheld from Public Release because they have been found to contain top secret information. Deborah Lutterbeck reports.

The State Department is confirming that seven email chains from the private server Hillary Clinton used when she was U.S. Secretary of State are being withheld from public release for containing “top secret” material.

State Department spokesman John Kirby.

“I am not going to speak to the content of these documents, I understand there is great curiosity. I am just going to put that right out at the top. I am not going to speak to the content of this email traffic.”

Earlier, White House Spokesman Josh Earnest was asked whether he could be certain that Clinton would not be indicted.

WHITE House Spokesman Josh EARNEST SAYING:

“That will be a decision that is made by the Department of Justice, persecutors over there. What I know that some officials over there have said is that she is not a target of the investigation. So, that does not seem to be the direction that it is trending.”

He was also asked if there should be a plan B in case Clinton is indicted.

WHITE House Spokesman JOSH EARNEST SAYING:

“That’s not something i am worried about, not al all.”

The Clinton campaign says it opposes the decision to withhold the emails from public release.

The former first lady, Senator and Secretary of State is now in Iowa preparing for Monday’s all-important caucuses.
