It has only been a couple of days since the world learned Angelina Jolie filed for divorce from husband Brad Pitt, and the rumor mill is churning like crazy. French actress Marion Cotillard, who’s been filming the upcoming film Allied alongside Pitt, has been forced to respond to rumors regarding her involvement in the divorce.

As you probably remember, Pitt and Jolie’s own romance started off as an affair when they filmed the 2005 film, Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Pitt was married to Friends star Jennifer Aniston at the time, but the chemistry between the two costars was undeniable. After a long period of denials, the two went public with their romance and Pitt ended up divorcing Aniston. But is history repeating itself?
The French beauty released a heartfelt statement via Instagram in an attempt to put an end to affair rumors, in both French and English.
This is going to be my first and only reaction to the whirlwind news that broke 24 hours ago and that I was swept up into. I am not used to commenting on things like this nor taking them seriously but as this situation is spiraling and affecting people I love, I have to speak up. Firstly, many years ago, I met the man of my life, father of our son and of the baby we are expecting. He is my love, my best friend, the only one that I need. Secondly to those who have indicated that I am devastated, I am very well thank you. This crafted conversation isn’t distressing. And to all the media and the haters who are quick to pass judgment, I sincerely wish you a swift recovery. Finally, I do very much wish that Angelina and Brad, both whom I deeply respect, will find peace in this very tumultuous moment. Cotillard then turned the subject to her longtime partner, French director Guillaume Canet, and confirmed she was pregnant with the couple’s second child. “Many years ago, I met the man of my life, father of our son and of the baby we are expecting. He is my love, my best friend, the only one that I need.” Canet was married to actress Diane Kruger when he met Cotillard, and the two divorced in 2006. Cotillard and Canet’s first son, Marcel, was born in 2011.
Cotillard then referred to the gossipmongers and rumors regarding her involvement in the Pitt-Jolie divorce, saying ‘To those who have indicated that I am devastated, I am very well thank you. This crafted conversation isn’t distressing. And to all the media and the haters who are quick to pass judgment, I sincerely wish you a swift recovery.”
The actress ended the statement by wishing Pitt and Jolie all the best: “Finally, I do very much wish that Angelina and Brad, both whom I deeply respect, will find peace in this very tumultuous moment. With all my love Marion.”
