THE Duchess of Cambridge brightened up a grey afternoon for the crowds at Windsor Castle in a red Catherine Walker coat and dress today amid a Garter Day washout.
Organisers of the annual Knights of the Garter procession had to switch to a full wet weather plan for the first time since 1971, meaning the Royal Family and knights travelled up and down the hill between the main part of the castle and St George's chapel in cars.
There were no military bands or Household Cavalry streetliners and plans for the knights and royal members of the Order of the Garter to march down the hill and for the royals to return in a carriage procession were abandoned after aides decided the chance of torrential rain was too big.
