Green smoothie that doesn’t taste like dirt

In a nod to my Twitter addiction, I’m going to hashtag #smoothies
#healthyrecipes and maybe #breakfast for this blog posts.

My green #smoothie recipe was quite a departure from my usual breakfast. Oh Boy! What I've been…

Honey, if I do have breakfast, it’s rarely been a healthy one. With great embarrassment, I tell you my breakfast most common starts at 11:30 (lunch for most people) and is far from healthy.

But, as I shared in a previous post, I was getting sick far too often and the culprit was poor self-care.

It’s a new day now. I shedding unwanted pounds and reclaiming my “healthy”. A big part of this process is making healthier food choices. Follow me on Twitter and see my journey up close and personal.

Just as an added note, I used to think Skipping Breakfast was somehow linked to weight loss.  I figured if I had few calories in the morning, I could load up on more in the evening.  Dumb.

In fact, skipping breakfast can be a sabotage to your weight loss goals.  According the Journal of Nutritional Science. According to Korin Miller at Yahoo News foregoing breakfast may set you up to “eat bigger meals later, their bodies were still unable to make up for the lost calories in that missing meal.”  My source was an article on  Science Alert.Com.

Ok. Let’s talk about my breakfast today.

I saw one of the cutest little boys I know helping his mom make a Green drink.  It inspired me.  So I ran out to the grocery store to find organic greens so I could have some drinkable veggies in my life. I rinsed them and threw them into my  Nutribullet! I was excited.   TK (real name Takia) is a busy wife and mommy. Hey, if she can find time to take good care of herself, surely I can too.  So, was geeked!

In all honesty, I have tried green drinks before. Most of the smoothies (and the juices too) take like they came straight from mother earth. In other words, they takes like dirt.  I’ve tried others that were too tangy with citrus – didn’t like those either.

But, as Goldilocks would say, I’ve found one is just right in my most recent green smooth concoction.

So, here it is.  A green smooth recipe I never thought I would make (or like):

Teri’s “I can’t believe I’m drinking this” Delicious Smoothie

½ cup of Kale (I get the bags made for juicing)

A bit of celery

¼ cup of fresh spinach

1 clementine

1 small banana

I orange

I golden delicious apple

½ cup almond milk

Splash of lemon juice

¼ fresh ginger

A few ice cubes

Into my Nutribullet and the result was a beautiful green concoction. The shade was so pretty, I’m determined to find a handbag that color.  Isn’t it beautiful?  It’s also very, very yummy.

I’m missing some protein, so I think I’ll grab a cheese stick for my ride to work. Wait.  Does almond milk count as protein.

Anyhoo, try it and let me know if you like it.

Update: In seems some of these ingredients can have detox/cleansing properties. I learned this the hard way prior (AND DURING) a training I was delivering. Be informed. Be warned.
