Brunch at Food for Thought National Museum Cafe

Have you noticed that our Singapore National Museum has become more attractive of late? Free admission for local citizens. More interesting exhibits. More things to eat. We had previously written about our experiences at the Flutes Restaurant and Janice Wong Restaurant at the National Museum. Today we will tell you about the Food For Thought cafe.

Food For Thought currently has three restaurants in Singapore. The one at National Museum is a casual cafe that occupies an open space in the museum. Encased within a glasshouse-like structure, it is lit with loads of bright natural light which makes it look effortlessly modern and beautiful. The very high ceiling also gave it an outdoor dining feel but with the benefit of nice and cool air-conditioning comfort.

Here is a picture of the one-page Food for Thought Menu. Nothing fancy, just all day breakfast kind of food, pasta, burgers and some mains.  For our brunch, we opted for two simple items from the brunch section – Basic Works ($9) and Banana Walnut Pancakes ($14).

The “basic works” was a light meal of brioche toast, scrambled eggs and bacon.  Its beauty lies in its simplicity. It was adequate for one person and one does not feel stuffed after eating this.

The banana walnut pancake was a more elaborate looking item. It does not contain fancy ingredients, just an abundance of banana slices to provide sweetness and walnut bits that provided crunch. A straightforward pancake dish presented quite beautifully.

The coffee ($5 for cappuccino, $4.5 for black coffee) served at Food for Thought was very good. Thick, rich and without any sour taste. They were the perfect drink to go with the pancakes and the toast.

Food for Thought was a simple and pleasant place to refuel while exploring the Singapore National Museum. The staff were efficient and helpful.
