The long-awaited opening of the Japan Food Town in Wisma Atria, Singapore finally happened on Saturday 16 July 2016. The Isetan Orchard store has been undergoing major renovations and this must be the most significant new project. Japan Food Town is located on the Isetan part of the building. The other part of the 4th level is taken up the Food Republic Food court. The whole 4th level of Wisma Atria is now a giant food and restaurant space. We took a walk about to find out what the new Japan Food Town has to offer.

The first impression of the space was that this concept reminded us of restaurant floors in office and shopping buildings in Tokyo that are fully dedicated to f & b outlets. Walk around the Japan Food Town and the 16 restaurants are well-integrated. Full details about this new Japanese food hall in Singapore and the individual restaurants  can be found on their website (link below). Basically the 16 restaurants had been handpicked from Japan to be represented here, each being renown for their respective area of expertise.

On opening day, not all restaurants were open. A few of the premises were still dark, a few were operational but did not open for business, possibly testing their systems. Fortunately, most of the restaurants did open on opening day. Here are some pictures of the restaurants which we came across and, where available, some sample pages from the respective menus.

Tsukiji Sushi Takewaka

This was the most impressive looking restaurant that was open.  We had lunch there. Read our review here.

Dassai Sake Bar

A bar set up to promote the Dassai sake. We stopped by for a couple of drinks. We will post our story shortly.

Yomoda Soba

Yomoda Soba, whose stand in Tokyo stand draws long queues daily, serves  fresh, quality soba made on-site.

Sabar

A restaurant that serves all things mackerel. Sabar uses top quality mackerel from Aomori.

Shabu Shabu Tajimaya

Beef and vegetable buffet Shabu Shabu or Sukiyaki – originating from Hyogo.

Hokkaido Izakaya

Serves Hokkaido’s produce from land and sea.

Rang Mang Shokudo

Serves artisanal fried chicken.

Machida Shoten Ramen

Michida-Shoten comes from the Kanagawa Prefecture  and serves noodles that are cooked to your specified softness/hardness.

Inaniwa Yosuke

Known as Sato Yosuke in Japan, Inaniwa Yosuke serves good silky, chewy udon.

Tempura Tsukiji Tenka

This restaurant features Tempura and Donburi by Tokyo Sushi Academy graduates.

Bonta Bonta

A restaurant that specialises in Onigiri rice balls. Their original shop is in Toshima, Tokyo.

Nabe Saizen

Related to a 2 star Michelin Tokyo Kaiseki restaurant, currently helmed by chef Haruhiko Yamamoto.

Ginza Anzu

Ginza Anzu serves food prepared using fresh Kyushu produce. Signature dishes include deep fried Japanese Black Haired Pork.

Osaka Kitchen Teppanyaki

Offers Osaka Teppanyaki using Wagyu beef and Okonomiyaki cooked in front of you.

Yakiniku Heijoen

Still under construction. This information from the website is all we need to know:
