We finally had the chance to visit the Style by Style Vibes Cafe at the new Mediacorp Campus in Mediapolis @ One North. We had heard about this cafe some weeks ago when Sharon Au was plugging it during her interview with Jamie Yeo on the radio. Who can resist a new cafe in the suburbs with a chance to spot a local celebrity or two? Definitely not us. Did we meet any celebrity? Do read on to find out as the answer appears at the end of this story.

The Style by Style Vibes Cafe is situated on the “roof park” level of Media Campus, which is level 3. The carpark is huge and there are a few ways, by stairs and lifts to get to the roof. The problem is that the roof park is a big open area and if you emerge at the wrong place, you have to brave the elements to get to the cafe. The best access point from the carpark (based on our limited experience) is to look for the stairs with this big sign. You will emerge quite near the cafe and there is a narrow sliver of awning to shield you from the rain.

Since the Style X Style fashion portal and Style by Style Vibes Cafe seem to be projects spearheaded by the ever glamorous and classy Sharon Au, we must admit we had some rather high expectations about the cafe. Our spirits which were already soaked by the rain, were further dampened by what we saw. The cafe was a large space and simply decorated in the industrial decor style. The place did not have any of Sharon’s characteristics. It is a self-service cafe. Order, pay at the counter and pick up the food when it is ready.

Style by Style Vibes Cafe serves Western cuisine such as salad, sandwiches and grilled chicken or fish. The choices were quite limited. We selected the breakfast set ($10.90), a teriyaki chicken sandwich ($8.90) and coffee ($4.80 each).

Two mugs were provided to us to make our own coffee from the automatic coffee machine. The coffee was better than the one at Ikea, but the procedure was similar.

The chicken teriyaki sandwich looked quite attractive on the outside, but the chicken content was low and the taste was quite ordinary.

The breakfast set was also quite disappointing. The croissant was soft, the sausage was bland. The baked beans were the best part of this dish.

Finally, what about the most important reason to visit Style by Style Vibes Cafe?  Well, they could have served us cardboard with ketchup but if we had a chance we meet Sharon Au or Rui En or any one famous for that matter, we would still be happy. But we did not. The closest we got to seeing any star was Fann Wong on the screen at the counter and Sharon Au as the covergirl on the Elle Singapore Magazine. It was not a very productive day.
