Oatmeal Bath, and other ways to use oats for skincare

Tags: oatmeal skin

With the cold weather coming upon us, it’s time to prepare our Skin for the harsher weather that tends to dry it out.

One of the best natural and inexpensive beauty ingredients for dry skin is Oatmeal. It isn’t just a great way to start the day anymore. Usage of oats in skincare has been dated as far back as 2000 BC.

Colloidal oatmeal is the natural product produced from ground oats. Once boiled, the extract produced is full of vitamins, minerals and lipids. That is why when we use oatmeal on our skin, it feels more conditioned and moisturised. Oatmeal is also in many beauty products in the market today, geared towards a variety of skin conditions, and is great for sensitive skin.

Our skin definitely needs all of the hydration it needs in the colder seasons. And oats can be incorporated into your beauty routine to achieve soft, supple skin all season long.

Here are a few ways to use oatmeal for softer skin:

Oatmeal bath

If you’re experiencing dry patches on your body, why not try this relaxing and soothing bath time tip: add plain oatmeal to your bath water as you run your bath. Sit and relax in this solution for 15 to 30 minutes. For an extra special treat, add lavender essential oil or any other oil you prefer.

Oatmeal Face Scrub and Mask

Put about 3 tablespoons of oatmeal into a bowl, mix in just enough water to make a paste. You want to be able to apply the mixture on your face, so make sure it’s not too runny or too dry. You can also try adding some honey to the mix for an added kick of moisture. Let it sit on your face for 15-20 mins and rinse off. The texture of the oatmeal should also help exfoliate your skin a bit, leaving it feeling super smooth! If you are more concerned about blackheads, try this mask.

Hair Refresher in between washes

Hair feeling a little greasy in between shampoos? You can dust some finely ground oatmeal to the roots of your hair. The oatmeal will help absorb excess oil and dirt right up!

Oatmeal is super cheap and readily available. There’s no reason not to include it in your regime!

Do you use oatmeal as part of your beauty routine? I’d love to hear your favourite way of using it!
