Women in Leadership: Esther

Tags: esther

No doubt, Queen Esther understood that her status demanded great results not just for her personal comfort, but that of the people of the land.

Her competency to deal with these demands could not be met in her own power. Queen Esther knew, she needed divine help to be the woman, queen, wife and leader to her people. So, with obedience to her upbringing taught by her uncle Mordecai, she called upon the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob for guidance, instruction and leadership to liberate her people and herself.

What we see is the queen walking through the palace gardens on a quiet, cool and starry night, with the rustling of the leaves on the trees from a soft north wind, and the smell of fresh flowers in the air. Looking to the vast skies, as her spirit, mind and emotions reached to the God of heaven as she prayed.

“O Jehovah, keep me focused to follow your will and plan for my life. I desire to fulfill my responsibility to guide your people. To be like Solomon, I ask for wisdom to influence leadership and to live before your people, as an example of your love and kindness. Open my eyes to understand what is happening around me, help me to walk in a way that pleases you as I resist deceitfulness of riches, or the pride of this life or the stranglehold of position or titles. Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. Your Spirit is good. Lead me into the land of uprightness, that I may declare your faithfulness in the congregation of your people. Help me to make the right decisions that will be pleasing to you. To declare your word boldly! Lord of host, I depend on your strength and will acknowledge you by giving you all the glory and honor, for you O God, are my fortress and refuge. Reveal to me the deep and secret things that I should know, for you Lord see what is to come, there is nothing hid from you.”

Can’t you imagine how Esther realized that to be led in righteousness was from God and how He promised to hold your hand, to sustain and keep you according to His will.

She learned to open her mouth boldly and make decisions based on integrity, humility and compassion. Esther agreed to follow God in all her ways by declaring herself a willing servant and yielded vessel for His glory.

Like Esther, develop using scriptures to speak from your heart to God’s ear. Here are some scriptures to consider:

I King 3:6-9    Philippians 2:13   Ephesians 5:15   Psalm 143:10   Proverbs 4:11;   Acts 22:14   Jeremiah 29:11

Philippians 4:13   Psalm 114:105   I Corinthians 10:31   Isaiah 41:13   Daniels 2:22   Isaiah 41:42
