Murder and a Mashed Potato Bar

Greetings friends and fellow Mystery aficionados!

Today we are highlighting our current featured mystery Party, Murder in Manhattan as run by Celsey B!  The event featured a Mashed Potato Bar - something that I desperately need to try now!

There were even a couple of “write in” characters who played the role of Disney Princesses before adjourning to the other room for a movie while the grown-ups finished the mystery.

Celsey had this to say about Murder in Manhattan:

“We had the BEST time! …  Perfect for a night with family or friends! I would say that this is the most thought out murder mystery party I have ever seen. Lots of character options, a fun and easy story line, and the scavenger hunt is a fun addition. I would recommend this party to anybody!”

Celsey was actually kind enough to write an entire review for the party!  Here it is in her words:

“We had the party to celebrate my 29th Birthday at our home in Utah.  When our guests arrived (11 characters, 2 Disney princesses, and a baby) they read through their profiles, got into character, and we sat down for dinner.

On the Menu:  It was my Birthday so I just picked my favorite meal.  We had salad, chicken pillows, garlic green beans, and a Mashed Potato bar.  We served the mashed potatoes in Margarita glasses for fun.  It was a huge hit!  We had a "dirty" soda bar for our drinks and soufflé for Dessert!  During dinner we let the game begin.  We spent an hour and a half or so eating, interrogating, and laughing our heads off!  Pick your characters carefully, so that the game is fun!  We ended up with some really funny character choices.

When I originally decided to do this for my Birthday I had one of my Brother in laws in mind.  He is quite the character and was such a great actor!  He went above and beyond to play his part and made it so much fun! I don't think he slipped out of character even once!

One of our couples (newlyweds) ended up being Father and Daughter so all night the daughter (wife) was getting after the father (her husband) for touching or kissing her accidentally out of habit!  It was so funny! Our mom was the queen bee socialite that was kind of scandalous and was engaged to her son in law.  We needed one of the girls to play a boy and our sister in law went all out with her costume.  She looked great!  The beard and mustache did make it hard to talk to her with a straight face but we had a great time trying!

The kids loved being included and dressing up as Princesses. They ate dinner with us and then had fun watching a movie while we finished the rest of the game.  I thought the scavenger hunt was a really cool addition to the game.  Everyone had fun searching for clues to solve the mystery.  At the end of the night, the ballots were cast and the murderer was revealed.  We also thought the awards were a fun way to end the night.  Next time I think I will do a few prizes to go along with the awards and make sure to take lots of pictures.

We did this party in between a cruise and the Holidays so we didn't have time to decorate very much.  Decorations would have made it even better.  We are planning on going all out next time.

I highly recommend a Playing with Murder party for your next friends or family (all ages) event.  We can’t wait for our next party!  Thanks again Playing with Murder you made my Birthday party one we will NEVER forget!

Thank you so much Celsey!  We’re really glad that Playing With Murder was able to help provide you and your guests with an unforgettable birthday!
