13 Greatest 80s TV Shows for Anyone in Their 40s

Growing up in the 1980s was rather strange. We still played in the streets from dusk ‘til dawn, and we still came home caked in mud after a day of adventures. However, we also gazed in wonderment the first time we saw a wireless remote control. We still bragged at school when we got our VHS cassette recorder.

We didn’t have the gadgets and technology our children have today. Instead of the smartphones we now buy them, we had to make do with a Texas Instruments Speak ‘n’ Spell. We didn’t have the option of accessing a billion websites from the comfort of our bedrooms; we had to spend hours at a time hunting for shabby, overused books at the local library.

But despite our primitive upbringing, we still had an amazing time. In my opinion, the 1980s generation was the last truly innocent, old-fashioned one. And although we couldn’t call upon a million movies at the touch of the button, we lived and breathed TV.

This was the golden age of Television. The late 1970s and 1980s spawned a new breed of television hero, and we’d all eagerly await their next appearance throughout the week. We planned our week’s activities according to the rather limited and restrictive TV schedules, but we didn’t mind because it was just our way of life.

We all have our favourite shows and TV heroes. Some of them transport us back to our childhoods, and others remind us of periods in our lives we’d sooner forget. Nevertheless, TV was the centre of our universe. And these 13 best TV shows of the 1980s truly defined the last great decade of individuality.
