Inner City Food Sovereignty

Organic, ethically sourced, local and made from scratch are words thrown around often these days. So often, in fact, that they’re slowly losing their importance within many different Food outlets in Brisbane. Looking at what the words actually mean and how a product can embody them is time consuming and not as riveting a past time as I once imagined. So let’s cut to the chase: instead of copping out and going to Woolies or Coles to buy your “organic” goods, truly support the little guys.

Food Connect and Meat at Billy’s are the true leaders in the little guys world. They both have an online an ordering system that allows you to pick up their produce from Wandering Cooks every Wednesday. Feel free to get in touch ([email protected]) to seek help in setting up your own personal account or to ask any questions at all.

If this may be a tad bit too difficult, ponder these suggestions and maybe try to work them into your weekly routine:

  • Wander into Fundies or a Wray Organics store, take your old bottles and see what you can refill
  • Have you ever been to Northey Street Organic Market on a Sunday morning? If not, treat yourself and get the scrambled eggs and pesto for breaky!
  • If you’re a collector of plastic bags – great! Here’s your one excuse to do a swift walk through Woolies. By the checkouts, they have a plastic bag recycling bin – chuck yours in there. It feels so good when you do it!

Good produce is easy to get your hands on, you just gotta know where to look.
