Comic Art Terms – Tight Pencils

Comic book art is first stated by the Penciller. The penciller does not usually create the finished art. The extent to which the pencilled pages resemble the final, inked version varies depending on the artist. Tight Pencils is a penciling style that is clear and precise, making the inker’s job of interpretation easier. Many pencillers prefer to create very meticulously detailed pages, where every nuance that they expect to see in the inked art is indicated in pencil. This helps the inker to finish the comic page with a strong resemblance of the original pencils.
