Could the odds of getting canon again in the January 2016 new anime season be almost a given now?

(Update Jan 5, 2016: Nope, no canon till March and I explain why. Here’s the January 2016 schedule.)

Meaning that the success of Boruto movie gave a blank check to Studio Pierrot to troll us all the way all these months.

No wonder Kishimoto wanted to just move on as soon as possible and dedicate to his new sci-fi series, which points to the conspiracy theory that he may have sold at least more than 50% rights to Studio Pierrot, an scheme that backfired quite badly.

This could mean that we may be seeing the end of Naruto Shippuden circa 2017.

(Updated November 13): You can read my full review, synopsis and full of Boruto movie here, with screencaps!

(Updated November 28): Here’s the new December 2015 anime schedule, just 3 filler episodes till 2016!

Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm updates November 2015

Rikodou Sennin Naruto, Final Susanoo Sasuke and Byakugo Sakura against Madara

And in the meantime, the hype continues to build, and there has been a news galore since the showing at NYCC.

By now we almost know everything about this game that will be released in February 2016 in the US and Europe.

There’s the February 4 date for Japan, February 5 for Europe and February 9 release dates for the US and Canada. It will be available in PS4, Xbox One and PC.

This will be THE definitive Naruto UNS title, closing the saga the same way as the manga did. The highlight is definitely the story mode, enabling you to relive the manga all over again.

Then there’s the Adventure mode as confirmed lately by Shonen Jump, enabling you to walk and discover through Konoha, obtaining permission to visit another villages too.

Whereas Siliconera stated that you can even switch team members during your journeys, but as Naruto you can cross over the world.

The trailer for NYCC showed the epic fight between Naruto, Sasuke and Obito, with the latter’s remembrances of what could have been.

We will see a three way fight between Madara, Obito  and Kakashi, being able to see his final Susanoo form.

Imagine the riot this would cause if somehow we saw Kakashi’s full face during his Susanoo o.o the level of trolling.

While an October edition of Shonen Jump stated that we will see Uchiha Shisui and Uchiha Itachi Final Perfect Susanoos too, with Shisui’s being green and Itachi’s being red.

And of course, it has been confirmed that those who preorder the game from now will get playable Boruto and Sarada, and the adult versions of Naruto and Sasuke.

There are also other goodies, such as being able to change clothing and uniforms for Hinata, Sakura and other characters, which haven’t been seen neither in the anime or the manga.

What hasn’t been fully confirmed is whether the Sound Four will appear, but it’s most likely.

Masashi Kishimoto at NYCC 2015: interview, transcript and details

Kishimoto-sensei and Junko Takeuchi

Kishimoto-sensei was clearly touched by the support and warmness of fans during his stay at New York.

Everything went fine and orderly, as nearly half of the 2000 fans or more that were presented were cosplaying as their favorite characters.

He stressed that finally he will be able to spend time with his children, and that he actually didn’t expect for Naruto to go this long, as usually if chapter 10 of a Shonen manga doesn’t get good feedback from readers, then it’s cancelled.

Interestingly enough, Kishimoto admitted that there was SOME SORT OF PRESSURE from the publisher for the series to not end. “I would be lying if I said that there wasn’t some pressure from management,” Kishimoto replied. “But I had a pretty clear idea of how I wanted the story to come to a close, and I had to put my foot down and say, ‘No, I’m sorry, this is it.’

Other interesting tidbit is that he and Eichiro Oda are rivals, in a good Bakuman way. He also hinted that Oda-sensei may be ending One Piece soon too.

Kishimoto-sensei didn’t actually know that Naruto has been the best-selling manga in the US for quite some time. “I actually just found that out.”

He barely got an inkling of overseas success with fan letters that he received in other languages, that were amusing to him, trying to make up what did they say.

Here’s a great self-portrait drawn during the panel that shows him in his pajamas, with a runny nose, dragging a pillow and his neko by his side :3

While Kishimoto was drawing Jiraiya for the audience, his editor, Jo Otsuki, was there and the panel moderator, Chris Butcher, asked about the complexity of the characters, no matter how good or evil they are.

Otsuki indicated that Kishimoto thinks about every single detail of every single character. “When each character first appears, or even before that, sensei has very carefully laid out what he wants each character to be, what his personality traits are, what has he done, what he is about to do, a complete personal history and background of each and every character, whether they be good characters or evil characters, or villains. The result is well-rounded characters, not just ‘flat images on paper.'”

Kishimoto confirmed that his main influences are Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball), Tetsuo Hara (Fist of the North Star),  and Masami Kurumada (Saint Seiya), the mangaka who made the Golden Era of Shonen Jump magazine.

Aside that, he cited Hiroaki Samura (Blade of the Inmortal) and Katsuhiro Otomo (Akira).

But can the Naruto era be considered another Golden age?

He is reserved and humbled in his answer: “You know, it reverberates very happily within me, even though I am kind of embarrassed, because I feel ashamed to say this in front of my mentors, the people that I consider the gods that came before me.”

But since they are not here, “maybe I can call that the golden age here, of ‘Jump.” ended in a humorous note.

On what advice he would give to mangaka that are starting out, he insisted that right now, the digital method is the best: “I don’t recommend the manual method anymore. It’s quite costly and it’s quite a lot of work and takes a lot of time. I definitely recommend, for those of you who are just getting started or are not yet started, to go digital.”

Despite this, he insisted that the most important thing is the story and how it is told, above everything else. “There’s no software out there, no digital technology is going to help you make a better story”.

And also, inevitably, the subject of Bakuman came up and this is what he thinks: ‘I definitely had the experience of having an editor yell at me, about deadlines especially. I guess about 99% of it might be true (…) but I really don’t think it’s feasible for high school students to really make it professionally and still go to school at the same time! But certainly I had to work even while I was sick.”

Here you can read the full interview conducted by ANN, conducted by Deb Aoki, with the participation and commentary of Mari Morimoto, who served as interpreter, and Jo Otsuki, Kishimoto-sensei’s editor.

And here’s a truly amusing tidbit for the shipping wars, on how his wife was a NaruSaku fan o.o :

Did you expect such a divided reaction (in the U.S. at least) when you revealed whom Naruto marries in the future?

I actually didn’t realize I caused such controversy.

Really? You had no idea?

Mari Morimoto:
So the fans wanted Naruto to get together with Sakura?

Well, there’s definitely camps of fans who felt that way, and there were also those that were very happy he ended up with Hinata. But there were quite passionate opinions on both sides!

I almost caused a rift in my own household too, because my wife was very upset also that Naruto didn’t get together with Sakura. In fact, she complained quite vehemently to me!

Jo Otsuki:
Quite few of the female staff at Studio Pierrot that produces the anime, apparently were also upset.

Whoah. So how did you handle that, especially with your wife?

I tried to defuse the situation by assuring my wife that SHE was actually the model for Hinata. (laughs)

As you were saying that, I thought, I wonder if your family life was more like Hinata and Naruto‘s family or Sasuke and Sakura’s? (everyone laughs)

Masashi Kishiimoto: Well… it might not actually be like either. My wife is quite strong as well, she’s a strong character.

Oh, so kind of like Sakura!

So I think my wife might secretly realize that Hinata wasn’t really the model for her… (laughs)

Really?? And what about the NaruSasu? I found it amusing because in 2008, he mentioned that he personally collected NaruSasu doujinshi, which sparked rumors of Naruto ending with Sasuke at the end.

But considering that this is Shonen Jump, not Shonen-Ai Jump or Yaoi Rabu-Rabu Jump (hey, I would so read the latter one), guess this wasn’t possible.

And this confirms that the backlash towards The Last movie was due to NaruSaku fans in Japan, seemingly the majority, while NaruHina was more popular in the rest of the world.

This also give us some hints that there were mainly three shipping factions at Studio Pierrot, one in favor of NaruSaku, and this bias could be seen in some omakes; the other in favor of NaruHina, more vocal and influential, giving more importance to Hinata’s role, dialogues and more of a relationship with Naruto since those pre-timeskip fillers.

It is believed they swayed Kishimoto’s bias towards NaruHina.

And the ‘silent faction’ (yes, let’s call it that way) was biased towards NaruSasu/SasuNaru. From the joy of animating the first NaruSasu kiss, to the dialogue, to the bickering, to the tragic first fight, to the infamous Second NaruSasu kiss in the fillers, to the doujinshi they probably created using pen names, and let’s see how they animate chapter 698-699.

he wasn’t called Sasugay for nothing o.o he was more blunt with his feeling back then

What I find amusing too is how he indicated to be proud of having written the screenplay of Boruto movie in its entirety, considering it the pinnacle of his career, and as you will see in my upcoming Boruto review with full synopsis and spoilers, there’s plenty of NaruSasu subtext, they drive the movie. Think Kirk/Spock level o.o
