First Post

So this is my first post. This blog is about my experience taking my first figure Drawing Class at a major university (or anywhere for that matter.) I registered for the class early in the spring with the intent to begin class in the fall. Therefore, I had the entire spring and summer to build up my anxiety to a feverish, sickening level before my first class. Yes, I was actually sick the first day. I literally ran from my car to the restroom in the fine arts building, afraid I wouldn't make it in time. I plan on using this space to document the experience this semester and possibly to add other art classes as I work toward my degree in studio art. I will be adding many photos of my sketches and drawings in order to document my learning and progress. (And to prove to myself that I am, indeed, progressing.) I am not a professional artist and in fact it has been five years since I took a drawing class and graduated from community college. I started this class woefully out of practice. For, although I love drawing and creating after I have begun, I have MUCH fear surrounding the beginning. Usually my fear controls me and I am paralyzed. I have been unable to produce art outside of a classroom for many years. Maybe I'll write more on the fear in another post. In the meantime, I'll post photos from my first class with a live model and my impressions of the experience in my next post. Over and out.
