Hideous Buick Avista concept car provides clear explanation why Corvette C7 Stingray and C7 Z06 are aesthetic abominations

North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) taking place in Detroit (hopefully with plenty of security around) between January 11 and 24, 2016 does not appear to be a very exciting place.  In fact, had it not been for the upcoming Ford GT, it would be even worse than the show that took place last year.  Long gone are exciting new Concept cars or interesting production cars from the past but... the show still serves its purpose, revealing the general engineering and design trends subscribed by the car makers.

As it stands, if one was to describe the current trends, BORING would describe the overall situation very well.  However, there is always a silver lining in everything, thus, boring can be  interesting as it is in case of +General Motors and its design philosophy and specifically a concept car called Buick Avista.

Apparently, this Buick is as good as it gets with car design at GM these days, leaving very little doubt to any possible outcome regarding the next generation of Corvette, C8 while providing a great explanation why the current cars consist of such patch work.

In a nutshell, the new Buick "concept" is exactly what one would get when joining a front of the new Ford Mustang/Ford Fusion (more toward Fusion, due to complete blandness of the front end design)

with the rear of Aston Martin, with absolutely no way not to recognize either of these two "inspirations" when looking at this "concept".

To GM designers credit, they managed to make the entire silhouette appear not like a 2-door coupe but a 4-door looking suspiciously close to Tesla design.

Now, where GM can be distinguished for its original work (finally) is the interior.  Calling this interior hideous would have to be a benchmark setting understatement  (all credit should be given to GM for the interior).

Unfortunately, this time around, a sum of body grafts results in a truly revolting, vomit inducing attempt at "new design".

Even more unfortunate is the fact that this is not an exception to the current GM philosophy but merely a logical consequence.   Of course, none of this should come as a big surprise to anyone carefully looking at the newest generation of Corvette.  This new Corvette generation has been created using the exact same approach: tweeking the previous generation's silhouette using design elements from Ferrari F12 in the front and rear, combined with Fisker Karma touches, resulting in another nauseating stylistic exercise in failure.

Can anything meaningful be expected from the next Corvette generation  style wise?  Based on the Buick concept, no way in hell...  The next design will be just as patched up as the current one.
