2017 Chevrolet Corvette C7 Grand Sport is another insult to memory of Zora Arkus-Duntov from General Motors and Tadge Juechter

Besides these two guys, there is absolutely nobody involved in history of Corvette can be ever accused of getting this seemingly trivial point, absolutely nobody as a matter of fact.  Unfortunately, this sad situation continues and the current Corvette chief "engineer"  is no exception here.  To clarify the quotation marks, calling Tadge Juechter an ENGINEER is another insult to actual engineers and especially Zora and Dave.  Among the words one could use to describe +Tadge Juechter , assuming someone both understands and cares about the current situation, DOUCHEBAG and self promoting and gratifying poser come to mind rather instinctively.

Although Juechter has already a well established trail of failures related to the latest generation of Corvette, apparently this has not deterred this fine "ENGINEER" from taking another swing at both Zora and Dave and insult them once again, like his Z06 disaster was not bad enough, this time with another poser car, C7 Grand Sport.

Although Dave Hill has committed an identical crime with C6 generation, producing the ultimate C6 poser car, C6 Grand Sport, to Hill's credit, he was able to come up with a proper Z06 during his stint at GM, something Juechter will never be able to claim.

Among the four attempts (five if counting Zora's original failed attempt) at creating a Corvette Grand Sport, only the original Grand Sport can be counted as a successful effort.  To a certain degree, the C4 attempt may be perceived as a success (at least when a nominal power gain and cannibalizing another Corvette model are considered) but nothing still comes close to Zora's original Grand Sport.

What separates Zora's Grand Sport from the truly pathetic latter usurpers is that super light weight and shitload of horsepower, turning a rather docile C2 car into a four wheeled missile, a worthy competitor to cars from Shelby and Ferrari.

Unfortunately, in spite of the typical marketing bulls...t from GM and Juechter, besides the designation and four wheels, there is absolutely nothing justifying the GRAND SPORT name given in vain to an obscenely obese and pathetically underpowered epitome of anti aerodynamics, that pretends to be a Grand Sport Corvette.

To GM's credit and courtesy of Juechter's engineering brilliance, there is one thing the current GS has in common with the original:  plenty of creaks and groans generated by the "most rigid Corvette chassis ever" but this is not really the point here (still funny, though). the point instead is that once again, GM used the Grand Sport moniker to produce a car that is a complete opposite of the original intent, along with another insult to the memory of Duntov.

To sum this new Grand Sport up, in its latest form, the newest poser porker weighs in at very hefty 3430 pounds, over 140 pounds more than its base Stingray counterpart.  Add higher level of interior trim, automatic transmission, powered seats and more junk and this porker will be lucky not to exceed 3500 pounds, a truly horrible number for a car that claims to be a sports car and one that has only two seats.

To make the matters worse, the GS porker uses the exact flawed aerodynamics and the same wide rubber as its supercharged Z06 cousin while not producing even a single extra pony to motivate this contraption to move.

Under the most optimistic scenario, without a Jim Mero style portly driver, the new car's weight to power ratio is a truly embarrassing 7.67.  How does this compare to the original, the car that produced 485 hp and weighed an amazing 2100 pounds?  Zora's w/p comes in at an amazing 4.33!!!

For comparison, the failed C7 Z06 comes in at 5.46 as long as the timing is not retarded and limp mode not engaged.

So what does the new Grand Sport have going for it?  From the performance POV, absolutely nothing, besides insulting Zora Arkus-Duntov once again.  Of course this is nothing compared to the Zora version of Corvette, assuming the idiot Juechter is still keeping his job and GM is dumb enough to go for it...
