General Motors continues to charge owners of Corvette C7 Stingray and Z06 for safety related "upgrades"- the great power steering cooling caper

This blog has pointed out on many occasions that if there is a mechanical component on the +General Motors newest Corvette generation, the rule of thumb dictates it WILL OVERHEAT.

This blog has also pointed out that even though components like transmission or engine and there Overheating Problems may create an inconvenience for the owners, certain components and their overheating problems go beyond the simple inconvenience, becoming safety related issues.  Specifically, the component in question is the newest Electric power assisted steering  system.   When the electric steering assist fails, it is not gradual, it is sudden and quite drastic change in the physical effort needed to operate the steering system.  Since the inferior electric system typically fails under heavy track use in elevated ambient temperatures, the results can be disastrous, considering the speeds involved.

There are two solutions to this problem:  upgrading the electric motor while improving the air circulation needed to cool it effectively or

Disable the TRACK MODE on the driving mode selection menu, making it available only after necessary modifications are made.

As of now, and very likely throughout the duration of the seventh generation of Corvette, neither of the solutions have been applied, solidifying this issue as ONE of the reasons that can turn the newest Corvette in a death trap on four wheels.

Since 2015, General Motors Continues to offer a half ass solution, consisting of a rigged belly pan and a cheap piece of vent tubing.  The problem with this solution is multi fold, requiring the owner to purchase an extra underbelly pan to go along with the cooling kit and then going through the painful process of installing this retarded contraption every time the car is foolishly taken to the track.

Of course, should someone decide to retain this UGRAYEDD for the purpose of street driving, any subsequent damage to the car would not be covered by the warranty applicable otherwise.

Track Use Power Steering Gear Cooling Duct
Models:
2014-2016 Chevrolet Corvette
Condition/Concern
Some customers may comment on feeling a reduction in steering assist while driving their vehicle on the track during hot days.

This condition may be caused when there is an increase in temperature with the steering gear.

Predictably, this disgraceful and dangerous strategy continues for the 2017 production year and it is painfully obvious that it will take a fatality or two before a meaningful solution is offered to the gullible buyers of these dreadful cars.  Then again, this is the exact same mentality that submerged GM in the ignition switch fiasco.
