Apparently, the latest generation of +General Motors  Corvette is well on its way to set a benchmark of sorts and certainly not a flattering one, becoming the least reliable Corvette generation ever.

Even though the problems related to catastrophic failures of LT1 and LT4 engines continue, they pale in comparison to the growing numbers of failed 8l90 automatic transmissions and torque converters, in a ratio of 4:1 when compared to engine failures alone.

An immediate result of this situation is a seemingly permanent back order on both items, affording  "lucky" owners plenty of time to reflect upon their buying decision to forego the ability to operate manual transmission under a pretense of achieving better results at the next drag strip event.

Considering that currently, over 65% of all Corvettes C7 (the percentage is higher for the Z06 flagship, at over 70%), the situation is not expected to improve anytime soon.  The situation is complicated even more due to the finicky nature of the software operation the 8-speed slush box that can and many times does imitate a mechanical failure of the transmission, causing service writers at GM dealership regretting their obligation to put up with the C7 owners.

A quick call to a couple of local dealerships confirmed this situation, with the ETA for the transmission and converter replacements listed as NOT AVAILABLE.
