Tom Daxon: new Magnolia Heights a bit of a departure from my previous fragrances

Perfume creator, Tom Daxon Bowers says his newest fragrance is a bit of a departure from his nine previous fragrances.

He recently launched Magnolia Heights. A springtime scent that represents Tom and his team’s working of the magnolia flower.

The unisex scent is described as deeply scented but delicate and fresh. Ingredients include Gardenia, Green Violet Leaf, Ylang Ylang, Magnolia, Jasmine Sambac, Cedarwood and Silken Musks.

Mr Bowers said he liked magnolia for its light and floral qualities when asked if Magnolia Heights is a departure from his previous fragrances.

Mr Bowers told munwaiwong.com at the launch at Les Senteurs in London: “A little bit. The reason we went with Magnolia is we tried it on Crushing Bloom.

“We didn’t use it but thought is smelled really good and it would be great to use.

“But also it would fit in with the fact that [it is] something lighter, floral.”

The creator is from a family background in the cosmetics industries. His mother was the creative director at Molton Brown and also had a career at Mary Quant Cosmetics.

The key relationship is with perfumer Jacques Chabert and his company Fragrances Essentielles based in Grasse, France.

Magnolia Heights and the brand’s other fragrances were created at the “fragrance capital”.

Bowers said: “He’s the head perfumer but his two daughters Carla and Elsa are perfumers as well [and are] really talented young women.

“Natalie Hubus was a lab technician and she started making fragrances in her own time and Jacques has promoted her to perfumer status so now he has got four, which is a lot of perfumers for a relatively small company.

“This is Natalie’s creation. We give them a brief and they come back and we get a dozen say and we don’t know who’s done them. All the perfumers would have done them. And we ended up going with Natalie’s which is really nice for her.”
