Paul Smith: on Bradley Wiggins at Rio Olympics and London Collections: Men spring/summer 2017

Paul Smith and Mun Wai
Fashion icon, Paul Smith says Olympic champion Bradley Wiggins will hopefully "do really well” at the Rio Olympics.

Sir Paul told munwaiwong.com at his recently opened shop space at Dover Street Market in London.

The space is "a recreation of his first ever shop" and displays his new book called, Paul Smith's Cycling Scrapbook as well as cycling and fashion pieces.

The fashion designer was a keen cyclist in his youth before a serious accident as a teenager put an end to his career.

He said
earlier this month: “Well, obviously there’s been a bit of an upset with British cycling, Shane Sutton the chief guy has resigned.

“The rub down there is Bradley Wiggins, that’s one of Bradley Wiggins old jerseys made into a rug.

“He’s probably riding his last Olympics so hopefully he will do really well.”

As for June’s London Collections: Men spring/summer 2017, Sir Paul is putting together a photography exhibition on punk called
Paul Smith Celebrates Forty Years of Punk with Derek Ridgers.

Sir Paul said: “Punk was very inventive, very creative.”

“The world is overfull of products. So you need a point of view. So you need something that is interesting and punk were revolutionaries.

"They were doing things that were really different.”

The designer who was knighted for his services to fashion in 2000 said punk was part of his youth.

“Mods, punks. And then a lot of different elements to my youth really. Britain is such a good place for creativity.”

And Dover Street Market, which opened at its new Haymarket location in March fits well with his shop located in the basement.

He said: “So, I thought it would be nice to bring all my cycling stuff together here. And there’s a lot of interest.

“It is quite interesting because cycling and this sort of floor with Palace and Junior and myself all sorts of goes together really well.”

And on the book itself.

He said: “So, anybody who likes cycling it has a lot of great graphics in it, brilliant photography, it’s just a book you can’t put down really.”
