Nets Plan to Waive or Trade Jarrett Jack This Week

Jarrett Jack (Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports)

Jarrett Jack’s 2015-16 campaign came to an abrupt end due to a torn ACL in January. The Brooklyn Nets did not have a great season to start and after the Jack injury, they essentially went in full tank mode under new general manager Sean Marks’ regime.

Since Marks came into power, the Nets have moved one of their veterans in Thaddeus Young in an attempt to get younger. In return, they got back a first round draft pick and selected another injury recovery project in Michigan guard Caris LeVert. The 20th overall pick in the 2016 Nba Draft came into the draft with a pretty serious foot injury. Interesting enough, the doctor who performed the foot surgery on Caris also did the foot surgery for Brook Lopez.

In the 2015 NBA Draft, the Nets selected stretch big man Chris McCullough who was coming off a torn ACL. McCullough’s development has been good in his limited time playing and the Nets look to do the same with LeVert. Brooklyn is hoping that these guys, who would have been top five talents before their injuries, will end up panning out into a formidable force.

The Nets weren’t going to scorch the earth anytime soon so instead of putting up a facade, they’re making some moves to help their future. Thad was the first piece moved and now, it looks like Brooklyn wants to move away from Jarrett Jack. One way or another, it appears he won’t be there.

It appears that Jack is going to be a cost cutting move one way or another. After the 2016 NBA Draft, Marks said that there would be a decision made on Jack’s future and it didn’t seem bright.

If, and when, the Nets move on from Jack successfully, the team will have well over $50 million in cap space. Unfortunately, this summer might be the wrong one to have space with a depleted roster. Could the Nets sell some stars on the potential to build their own team in a big market under a new regime? Sure, but who knows if it works out.
