Welcome To My Journey. 52 Weeks Of Self-Discovery, Week #7

Week seven in my 52 week journey was fraught with more amazing triumphs and a few disappointing misses. My writing goal was another miss, but I’ve come to peace with the idea that it’s better to focus on the task at hand, which in this case was polishing the final draft of my latest book and turning it into my agent, which I did.

I’m even more excited by the feedback from beta readers, my mother included, and editors who read the final final draft (hopefully). I thought I was done, but then I started editing it more. One redundant word elimination led to another.

I must admit, it’s the most heavily edited work I’ve ever completed, at least on my end. I owe that almost entirely to Smartblogger’s editing tips, a shockingly phenomenal post. That will have to be the new website productivity tip of the week because I didn’t get to another other’s mentioned in my prior post.

In addition to my new book, my Lifehack article, 52 Lies You Must Ignore to Become Filthy Rich, went live! I spent the better half of the week promoting it, which more than paid off. It’s gone viral. After working my existing network on Twitter, the feedback started rolling in.

The article was shared by John Lee Dumas of EoFire, which you may recognize if you’ve been paying attention to the weekly podcasts I’ve been listening to. It was also shared Michael Okuda, the graphics designer of Star Trek, writer Michael Moran & more. Actress Lizza Monet Morales read the article, shared it, and told me, “Thanks for writing fierce content that challenge us all to put aside the myths & keep rising!!”

As part of that success, I was contacted by Dave M. Lukas, host of the podcast Misfit Entrepreneurs. He wants to interview me August 19th, and I’ll let you know when the podcast  will go live. I’ll count that as a win for my goals on getting responses from successful business people.

On the writer front, I received two personal emails, one from science fiction author Vaughn Heppner, and the other, Christopher Nuttall. In response to my question on what’s required for creative success, Christopher Nuttall said, “I’d say ‘Hard Work,’ to be honest. Having the dream is one thing, but you have to work hard to make it real.” To that, I’d have to agree. I will add, though, that it’s possible to streamline that hard work by working smart. One of the tips I expound upon in my upcoming book.

You can read Vaughn Heppner’s exclusive quote in my email newsletter if you’re a subscriber. I haven’t released the prior quotes by Brian Tracy or A.G. Riddle. I’m saving those for my upcoming book. Speaking of A.G. Riddle, I feel bad not finishing his book, which I’d hope to finish weeks ago. Still, I read every day, even if just a little.

For my other goals, I did my extra ab workouts. I listed to over 17 podcast episodes (that’s a huge win), and I finished the audiobook, Scientific Advertising, which if I’m being honest, I found a bit outdated. Still, it had some good nuggets of wisdom.

I met several new people in the course of my weekly activities, but not in a real substantive way. On balance, I’d say this past week was a huge success. I’ve already written the headline for my next Lifehack post. I’m keeping it close to the vest, but let’s just say I’m borrowing the theme from a famous Zig Ziglar quote: "You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want."

My goals for this week are listed below. I’m paring down my writing goal again, but included in that is today’s blog post as well as the rough draft for my next Lifehack article. I’ll have two solid weeks to dedicate most of my writing to the time travel book. I forgot to mention, I did an additional 18 pages of ghostwriting this past week. And I’ll do another 20 this week as well.

I missed hiking again because of remnants from another tropical storm. I did manage to visit several new places, including Liliha Bakery, which is surprising I haven’t been there already in the 22 years I’ve lived in Honolulu. I also visited the Honolulu Coffee Company’s new location, which occupies the former building of the Hard Rock Cafe.

That’s it for this week. I’d love to hear your thoughts on my Lifehack article and this week’s blog post, so drop my line and feel free to leave a comment.
