Australia Vs Zimbabwe 25/08/2014 Scorecard

A lot of anticipated matches were/are about to take place today, The start of the ODI series between India-England, The 3rd ODI between West Indies and Bangladesh and the one i am about to talk about, the start of the tri series (Australia/South Africa/Zimbabwe) with the first one day international between Australia and Zimbabwe.

The India-England match ended in a wash out which was a bummer as it would have been interesting to see how the Indian team performed under the new coaching staff and how England reacted to their empathic win in the Test Series.  On the other hand, the match  that is yet to happen will be another interesting encounter as it would be interesting to see if Bangladesh get back to winning ways by getting their first win in 2014.

Let's talk about the game that just finished, Australia against the Zimbabwe.

It was not tough to predict the results of the match as Zimbabweans are still trying to find their way in international cricket, especially after a few greats from their teams such as the Flower Brothers, Heath Streak, Craig Wisarth retired.

I have a question here which i don't think i will get an answer to.  There is no doubt that the Zimbabweans produced a few greats but what i do not understand is, why don't they take part actively and try to help in the progress of the Zimbabwe cricket team?

If you think about it, Andy Flower has been one of the best coaches of England and now Grant Flower is doing a good job being the batting coach of Pakistan.  Why don't they try to progress the Zimbabwean cricket?

I am not trying to question their integrity but it would be great to see Zimbabwe competing once again as i strongly believe they have an excellent work ethic, attitude and passion for the game but they lack as far as the direction is concerned.

Looking at today's match despite conceding 350 runs against the mighty Australian team, Zimbabwe did quite well in the beginning but lost their way a little bit.  Maxwell, Marsh, Finch all chipped in with half centuries with Maxwell making a quick fire 93 of 46 balls.

The game was done and dusted and as expected Zimbabwe lost by a large margin of 198 runs but what was good to see as far as their batting was concerned is Hamilton Masakadza's superb innings.  He has been a very consistent performer but needs support if Zimbabwe needs to get through in their future matches.

As far as the detail scores are concerned, Australia made 350 for 6 in 50 overs with Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh and Aaron Finch making 93 (46), 89 (83) and 67 (79) respectively.  Zimbabwe in response made 152 all out with Hamilton Masakadza making 70 (91)
