It’s raining devils on TV!

After ‘Naagin’, vampires, chudail, daayans, it is now time for a ‘Brahmarakshas’ to come on small screen. The Supernatural horror show is coming on air from 6th August on Zee TV and it features Krystle D’Souza and Aham Sharma in lead roles. But the title role of the Brahma Rakshasa will be played by actor Parag Tyagi.

Loosely based on Shahrukh Khan and Rani Mukerji starrer Paheli which was inspired from Mani Kaul art film, Duvidha, Brahmarakshas traces the mythology of demon spirits of Hindu mythology.

Brahmarakshas were a regular feature in old Indian stories like Vikram Aur Betaal and Panchtantra and other old tales of mythology. Something like a yeti, Brahmarakshas is actually the spirit of a Brahmin, a dead scholar of high birth, who has done evil things in his life or has misused his knowledge, who has to suffer as a Brahm Rakshas after his death.

In films the concept of ‘Brahmarakshas’ was explored by Vikram Bhatt in film Creature 3D that had Bipasha Basu as the heroine. The film flopped at the box office but delved on this mythological concept first time in screen.

Produced by Ekta Kapoor, Brahmarakshas is touted as Zee TV’s answer to Naagin and Kawach. Though Ekta has explored supernatural elements in her films like Krishna Cottage, the supernatural formula was a big success on television with Naagin and Kawach. So we don’t blame Ekta for bringing this unique supernatural show on TV.

Popular actress Krystle D’Souza returns to television almost after 3 years with this show. Last seen in Sony’s ‘Ek Nayi Pehchaan’ and Star Plus’ Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai, Brahmarakshas will be her big ticket return on TV. Incidentally Ekta had launched Krystle 10 years ago in Kahen Na Kahen on 9x, but later never worked with her.Lately Ekta has been seen with Krystle in various parties and they seem quite close and pally. Hope Krystle shines in the role of a newly wed wife who’s caught between a husband and a ghost.

Krystle’s husband’s role is been played by Aham Sharma who played Karna in Mahabharat of Star Plus. He was last seen in Star Plus’ Manmarziyan. The pairing of Krystle and Aham looks fresh and cute .

The show also marks the return of popular actress Rakshanda Khan after her marriage to actor Sachin Tyagi. Now it remains to be seen how this demon, Brahmarakshas is taken up by viewers of TV. Will it repeat the success of Naagin or be a slow starter like Kawach needs to be seen. Going by the current fad of supernatural and a promising star cast on TV, there is a high chance of the show being a hit!
