Here are two of my most recent paintings. They are both acrylic on canvas 24"x30".

These are different from most of my past paintings for several reasons. First of all they are acrylic. If you had a conversation with me about types of paint a few months ago you would be quite surprised that I am now working in acrylics, I used to hate them! But the real reason is that I had very little experience in acrylics. The only times I had used them was in high school art classes and lets just say the quality of the paint was not much better then the quality of the teaching. All the paints came in jugs with handles and in borderline day glow colors. Not to mention that I didn't even know that acrylic mediums existed. After working with better paints and learning the wonders of mediums (I use a glazing medium and a slow drying medium, usually along with water mixed in when I want to alter the thickness of the paint. For any of you that paint with acrylic and don't use mediums I would say you Have to buy some before you start your next painting). With the mediums I have been able to create some really nice transparent brush strokes that I layer, layer, and layer some more. The reasoning behind my choice of subject matter is that I have been playing with the idea of using an object to represent the absence of a person (or something important in ones life).  These paintings have some what of a narrative quality but I wasn't aiming to tell a whole story, just lay the ground work enough so that when someone looks at them they can add their own story in.
