#LoveNature Design Insights with Belgian lifestyle blogger, Laura! (Je Fais Du Bruit)

If you didn’t already know, here at Brabantia we #LoveNature! Whilst we’re all about fresh and fashionable interior trends, we’re also hugely into discovering how we can live a super-stylish lifestyle whilst loving nature too! This week we spoke to Belgian lifestyle blogger, Laura of Je Fais Du Bruit blog, to talk all things nature-inspo!

How do you show your love of nature?

I’m trying to respect the environment and the planet as much as possible in the most simple of ways: cutting down the water I use while washing my hands, turning the light off when I leave a room, etc. I’m extra careful with the selective waste sorting too; I have 5 different bins in my kitchen. I know people who don’t sort waste because “it takes too much room in the kitchen” – this drives me crazy.

(our Sort & Go bins are a space-saving solution that look great!)

Have you heard, we are launching a ’30 Day Drying Challenge’ called #LoveNature Pledge?  Simply turn off the tumble dryer and go greener with air dried laundry using a rotary dryer or drying rack! Will you make a pledge to join us please?

Yes! I have joined the challenge! As I’m currently living in the city, I brought my laundry to my future parents-in-law’s home to enjoy sun and fresh air. There is nothing better than going to bed in new fresh sheets! Even in an apartment, I rarely use a tumble dryer. It takes a lot of time and you have to iron the clothes afterwards, but if you let them dry on a rack, even inside, ironing can be optional! Although I must admit it’s not the same as drying outside!

Every time you dry your laundry naturally you help to make a lasting difference. Do you have a top laundry tip to share?

I never wear the same clothes twice in a row. When I come back home after work, I hang my shirts and blazers to refresh them. This way I can wear them more often. I also learned the hard way that too much washing powder can shrink clothes (especially wool & cashmere) even if the washing temperature is low. I lost some of my favourite cashmere jumpers before, so now I’m really cautious with that. Also, a tradition coming from my mum: put small bags of fresh lavenders in your drawer. It’s so good to have fresh clothes and it’s 100% natural. I have lavender in my new garden so I’m happy I will be able to continue this tradition!

When we style our homes it’s fun and relaxing to bring in a bit of nature too, what top styling tips do you recommend for bringing green into the home?

I don’t have that many plants inside my home because I have 2 cats and they love playing with my plants too much! Although I usually buy succulents; I have mini cacti in a small greenhouse to protect them from the cats (and also to protect the cats from them!) I buy plants that are known for depolluting homes. Some are good to fight the chemicals that are in paintings or wood furniture, and others reduce the damage from wifi and other electronic devices… It’s a green touch in the house and health benefit at the same time!

Have you worked with Pantone’s Spring 2016 ‘Green Flash’ hue yet? Representative of nature’s persistent influence in urban environments, is it a hit or miss for you?

I’m not really into green but it’s a colour that you can easily find in kitchen and cooking tools, so I have a couple of green things at my place!

What project are you super-excited about working on this year?

My new house! We have to renovate the kitchen which is very exciting, and I will have to learn to improve my skills in gardening which I’m very excited about too. We are planning to have 2 chickens so we can have our own eggs. It’s also a good way to get rid of food waste as they eat everything! And we are planning to grow our favourite vegetables. I can’t wait to have my first fresh peas; one of my best childhood memories with my dad that was growing some in our garden.

And finally, have you seen our latest Collection? It’s simply bursting with nature-inspired must-have products! What item is on your must-have wish list?

I love the Sort & Go bins. It’s proof that even in small spaces you can manage to sort the waste, as I was saying in the first question. I also love the Stackable Storage Jars and Boxes. I’m really into gaining space in the kitchen.
