The outlook is cloudy with a strong possibility of rain. I can see the wind weave its way through the long grass in my overgrown garden as I sit and contemplate what to do with a day without plans.
Django Django play on my stereo. I am reminded of college, and a time when days were consumed by long expanses of free time. This seems appropriate. Back then the BetaBand provided the soundtrack for at least one memorable summer at a time when the real world seemed nothing more then an irrelevance. Now through the hipstamatic haze of a decade, a feeling of nostalgia dominates my thoughts as I listen to a contemporary band heavily influenced by that soundtrack.
But Django Django, the self titled debut from David Maclean, Vincent Neff, Jimmy Dixon and Tommy Grace, is a lot more then the sum total of its influences. At its heart is a psychedelic pulse that fuses tribal rhythms, a Scottish vocal and a very fresh east London aesthetic. This blend is a triumph and more then an adequate soundtrack for a day oozing with possibility.
