Ko-Eun Lee wins piano competition

Ko-Eun Lee bagged the 1st prize in the Nena Plant Wideman Piano Competition on Saturday at First Baptist Church in Shreveport.





The three finalists in the 60th Competition, who were named Dec. 5, performed along with the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra in the final leg of the competition, which is sponsored by the Shreveport Symphony Guild.

In addition to Lee, other finalists were Soyeon Park and Jannie Sing-Yen Lo. Park Received the $2,500 silver medal award and Lo received the $1,500 bronze medal award.
Born in Seoul, Korea, Lee graduated with a bachelor of Music and master of music degrees from the Juilliard School. She has performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and in 2010 won the World Piano Competition in Cincinnati.
After arriving in the United States, Korean-born Park attended Manhattan School of Music, where she received a bachelor of arts degree and a master of music degree. She participated in the New Jersey Governor’s School of the Arts and Tivoliclassica Festival Internazionale di Musica Classica in Italy.
Lo, a native of San Francisco, has performed with orchestras and festivals across the United States, Canada, Germany, Austria and Holland. She received a bachelor of music degree at the Peabody Conservatory of Music.
In addition to winning the $5,000 William Peyton Shehee and Virginia Kilpatrick Shehee gold medal award, Lee also will perform with the Northwest Florida Symphony and the South Arkansas Symphony and will play recitals in Jackson, Miss.; the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series in Chicago; the Phillips Gallery in Washington, D.C.; and Jam’n Bread Chamber Series in Shreveport.
