Conti Wax Museum is a weird one. It's not open everyday. You either have to book a group tour and call up or try your luck on Monday, Wednesday or Saturday. I happened to be lucky when I walked past and saw a family arguing with the staff about how they were closed on the day they book to visit. The staff let us all in for free and for however long we wanted to stay.
It was a really nice surprise. A bit grubby and kinda outdated in a charming way. The wax figures act out the history of New Orleans in chronological order. They survived Katrina in 2005 without much damage. I then found out that the whole museum, which has been a French Quarter institution since 1964, was up for sale. I hope that they stay open and continue to make NOLA a little bit quirkier.
