Climbing

If only every night could have been, you and me, sitting by the fire just thinking.

Where we’d talk and we’d drink and we’d speak about the future.

That’s when I loved you the most.

If only every time I made a mistake, I’d think of you first and how it would effect you.

Where my decisions would have been wise and our relationship only better.

That’s where I messed up.

If only we would have tried a little harder. We’d have made it. I know.

Where we could put our pasts aside and think of only what we brought to each other.

That’s where we would have prospered.

Should have closed our eyes and ears and let no evil in.

Temptations of the outside world only brought out the worst in both of us.

We should have understood that we reacted quickly without thinking.

But most of all in the middle of the night where we would sit by the fire,

We were creating a better tomorrow.

If there was only you and I.

I loved you when you’d speak to me of ambitions, cares, and dreams

I only wanted to be there to see you through it, to help you if things didn’t work out.

I loved you when you brought out the best in me.

Where I’d climb that hill just to see your smile, your happiness, your love for me.

I loved you when we’d share our secrets

Where you’d teach me and we’d do it right.

I can’t live without you dear.

You were my morning light.

After the hike to our destination, after the drinks and all the words

I’d wake up next to you and think, of how wonderful it would be.

If there was only you and I.

If only there was more time, more time to fufill our dreams and match them up together.

Where whatever we wanted to do and be

We’d be each other’s cheerleaders.

That’s where we’d make things work.

And I wouldn’t be digging to find, something only you and I could share

At the highest peak, on top of that mountain, where we’d stare into the fire

And just share and drink.

If only we weren’t miles away, if only you’d give me just another chance to try.

I’d follow you anywhere, to the lowest, low, to the highest, high.

Where you’d let me be there for you,

And you for I.

If only we could go back to that night,

Where the fire burned bright,

That’s where our love survived.
