Directed by Kenny Leon, the cast stars Denzel Washington as Troy Maxson and Viola Davis as Rose, the married couple struggling with changing U.S. race relations. The revival received ten Tony Award nominations, and won three Tony Awards: Best Revival of a Play, Best Performance by an Actor in a Play for Denzel Washington, and Best Performance by an Actress in a Play for Viola Davis.
