Fifth Harmony and Danity Kane: Will history repeat itself?

REFLECTION

The time for the long-awaited release of 'Fifth Harmony's' first major LP or album, 'Reflection,' finally arrived earlier this year on January 30th. According to Billboard.com, the first single, 'Sledgehammer,' is a top-40 hit and the album is on its way up Billboard's 200 chart.

Fifth Harmony

The band, first created on the X-Factor in 2012, features the voices of Camila Cabello, Normani Kordei, Dinah Jane Hansen, Ally Brooke Hernandez and Lauren Jaurequi, who were all contestants on the show and auditioned individually as solo artists. It was Simon Cowell who put the girls together, and after their first audition as a group in front of Cowell and Marc Anthony, the men openly admit that there is something special about the group. Time has proven them right.

Parts of the album are definitely get-down-and-groove tunes (Worth It, Them Girls Be Like and Sugar Mama are amongst my faves), while others (Sing It Like Mariah and This Is How We Roll) still lean to the kiddy-pop audience in my opinion. That's not to say that I am throwing any shade in their direction, I'm simply stating how I feel. You feelin' me?

All-in-all, I would def recommend songs from this album cuz it flow. Keeps you rockin' up and down, side to side. I dare you to sit still while you are listening.

But will history repeat itself as it has in the past with Danity Kane?

REFLECTIONS OF Danity KANE

Everytime I groove to 'Fifth Harmony' -- in the car or during a workout -- I can't help but be reminded of my other formed-on-tv, all-girl group, 'Danity Kane,' and their rise (and fall) to stardom.

About a decade ago, Diddy's project 'Making The Band S3' with MTV launched what was the next big all-girl group to rival the 'Pussycat Dolls' and the name of the band was 'Danity Kane.' They were da bomb, too!

However, personality clashes, conflicts and who knows what else found their way into the group's dynamics and it was a fast slide down a very steep hill for the group, and suddenly, they were gone. After two successful studio albums, Danity Kane and Welcome To The Dollhouse, the group set itself on fire and doused themselves out before their flame could rise like a phoenix.

Four of the five members of 'Danity Kane' at the beginning of their comeback tour.
According to MTV News, their last album, DK3 (2013), started out with four of the five girls returning to the scene with all new tracks. But after recording the album and at the beginning of an album tour titled 'No Filter,' one of the four girls dropped out of site to start a family. Hence the name. Needless to say, Diddy was not at all happy. Quite frankly, neither are/were the fans, myself included.  I am a fan of Danity Kane and I love the songs Lemonade, Bye Baby and Rhythm of Love on DK3. It's too bad these girls couldn't work things out for the sake of the fans, Diddy, and everyone involved in making them Danity Kane in the first place.

There is a silver lining to this sad story, however. Aubrey O'Day (2nd from left below) and Shannon Bex (far left) have formed a duo called 'Dumb Blonde' with an entirely new sound. Personally, I look forward to their attempt. I only hope that this time, it sticks.

WORD TO THE WISE

Girls of 'Fifth Harmony' beware: success today could be gone tomorrow. So, be mature, communicative, honest and moral in your judgements when it comes to the group. No one is saying you can't have a life. It's all in the approach and how much you are willing to compromise.
