The only thing wrong with immortality is that it tends to go on forever.  -- Herb Caen, newspaper columnist.

I wonder if I'm dreaming.  I feel so unashamed.  I can't believe this is happening to me.  -- Peter Frampton, who expresses in song what I am feeling.

In the following music video,  take notice of the necklace worn by Peter Frampton.  You might be confused.  Myself?  I am amused.

C.E. Gee , November 2012, almost died from Vietnam War related injuries that caused internal bleeding -- had to be revived before surgery; blood pressure was down to 50 over 0.

The story "Pappy's Trip" was inspired by the above-mentioned incident and others.

Also inspired was the following blog article, which we will reprint below.

======================================================

CHUCK’S MOST EXCELLENT CHRISTMAS VACATION.

I almost died on December 12th of 2012.  The attending surgeon informed my wife that if I’d arrived at the emergency room 20 minutes later, I would have bled out.

The internal bleeding was a continuation of one of the injuries I’d endured in Vietnam at the behest of Democratic President LBJ and his evil minions.  I was a draftee, eventually found myself plunked down in the Iron Triangle near the Cambodian border during 1968.  I was a light weapons infantryman (11bravo MOS), 1st Infantry Division.

Those of you familiar with my penchant for efficiency will not be surprised that I decided to combine my 2012 death with a much needed vacation.

So I traveled to the near shore of the river Styx, a spot I knew well.

Charon, the ferryman, recognized me immediately, propelled his boat to the shore.

“Chuck!” he exclaimed.  “Good to see you once again.  Do you have my fare this time?”

“Sorry,” I replied.  “Not this time.”

Charon smirked, shook his head.

I explained, “I’ve one more battle to fight.  Maybe afterward, you’ll get your fare.

“The Tribulation looms, and despite my age and injuries, I hope to battle the agents of the Antichrist -- a fitting destiny for a warrior/monk such as myself.

“I hope to become a berserker for the soul of humanity.  I may fall in battle.  Do not mourn for me old friend.  I will fall with a smile on my lips, joy in my heart.”

Charon saluted, said, “Good luck my friend.  May the Gods be with you.”

“I am,” I replied.

I then awoke in the post-op of a hospital, surrounded by nurses.

One of the nurses asked.  “Why are you smiling?”

I didn’t know what to say.
