Paid Gaming: Myth or Reality?

Every gamer dreams of being able to make money doing their favorite hobby of all time. Pay me to play! That is the rallying cry of today’s gamer. And, yes, there are several ways to monetize your Gaming hobby. The most notable today is probably the first that came to your mind…gaming streamers.

Twitch is probably one of the most popular platforms for this hobby. What blows me away is that people go watch these Twitch streamers and throw tons of money their way in the form of gifts and tips. I’m a Dad of three kids and the only one working in my family. No way can I afford to do that and no way do I have time to be a Twitch streamer. Plus, who is really going to want to watch some tired old Dad get his rear handed to him in Fortnite by 10-year-old kids? OK. Actually, that might make a few people laugh…maybe I should give it a try after all.

Mistplay is another popular option and probably a way better option for gamers like me who do not have tons of time to dedicate to gaming. I downloaded Mistplay in the last half of 2022. When I downloaded it, I had one goal in mind…I wanted to play until I heard earned $100.00. That doesn’t sound too crazy, does it?

I found out rather quickly that earning money with Mistplay is pretty slow. It is also only available to people who have Android mobile devices. Sorry, Apple fans. Mistplay works like this:

1. Download Mistplay from the Google Play store.
2. Set up a Mistplay account.
3. Install games through the Mistplay app.
4. Play games.

The rewards from Mistplay actually come from the amount of time spent playing each game. When you first install a new game, you’ll rack up points pretty quick as the early levels don’t take as much time to earn. However, once you get past level 10 for a game, you can expect it to take a considerable amount of time spent playing to earn money. Oh yeah – and you don’t earn unless you’re actively playing the game. If your screen times out, then you stop earning until you unlock the screen again.

I definitely recommend giving Mistplay a try if you enjoy mobile gaming and want to earn a few extra bucks. Again, just don’t expect this to happen quickly. It took me roughly 6 months of fairly consistent yet causal gaming to finally earn my $100.00 (see below). Was it worth it? I think so. Now what to buy with my hard earned Amazon gift card?

If you decide to give Twitch or Mistplay a try, let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear about your experience!
