Review: Our Beloved Summer

The recently concluded Our Beloved Summer has been trending for months and I waited for the episodes to be completed before watching it. I like their chemistry and when I watched their MMTG interview, I really wanted to watch this K-drama soon.

These are the things that resonated with me while watching this drama:

1. The cuteness of the lead and supporting characters.

There is an overload of cuteness from the characters from Kim Da-Mi(Kook Yeon-Su), Choi Woo-Sik (Choi Ung), Park Jin-Joo (Lee Sol-Yi), and Ahn Dong-Goo (Koo Eun-Ho).

Also, I like the scene-stealers Jo Bok-Rae (Park Dong-Il) for his warmth and Kang Ki-Doong (Kim Jin-Seob) for the hilarious antics.

2. The episode titles are very catchy.

These are based on different films such as I Know What You Did Last Summer, 10 Things I Hate About You, Pride and Prejudice, Love Actually, and Life Is Beautiful.

3. The cliche of the love-hate relationship.

Yes, this is cliche but still entertaining and we can't help but root for each other. They are childish and savage but nostalgic and funny.

4. The deeper meaning behind our actions.

In the beginning, I do not understand Kook Yeon-Su's actions and sometimes even Choi Ung's decisions as well. The reason for their break-up is heartbreaking and not everyone is strong enough to embrace and understand it. We all have our insecurities and some are better in handling it but for most of us, it is difficult to handle as well. Also, it is worth noting that shallow, nonchalant actions may appear like that but it still went through a decision-making process. We just have to ask to understand the meaning behind it because everything happens for a reason.

5. The unexpected but realistic decisions in life.

Our situations in life may not what we assume to be and there are lots of expected decisions for different scenarios. However, in reality, one's decisions don't have to follow the norm because we are all unique in our own ways. I like how the writer made those twists and turns and made me realize that it is okay to decide on what makes you happy regardless of the expectations from others.

6. The inner child that never grows old.

Let's accept it, we all have that inner child that never grows old. They can be irritating, childish, cute and loveable as well. It makes our lives more interesting and somehow happier.

7.  The song "Christmas Tree" by V.

This is indeed a gift. Every time the song is played, it feels like a warm embrace. For me, it is like a therapy that we all need right now.

8. We are not alone.

Most of the time, we feel that we are alone. Sometimes, even with the company of others as well. However, there are few silently rooting for us that we don't notice at all. Our family, friends, colleagues, or maybe someone that our paths crossed. We just have to acknowledge them.

9.  Acceptance is the key.

There are lots of things that we cannot control, sometimes even our own emotions. It may be difficult but learning how to accept things as they are is definitely the key for us to improve ourselves and deal with the rollercoaster ride of life. Acceptance doesn't mean defeat, it means you are strong enough to choose your battles.

10. We all want a worth-it happy ending.

After everything, the joy, heartaches, and struggles, we definitely all want a worth-it happy ending.

Note: I will update this again after rewatching the drama. I like rewatching my favorite shows.
