2022 A Year in Review

Welcome to our Year in review for 2022!
This year was full of adventures, accomplishments and many life changing moments, it was just all too much to write in the Christmas cards that we mailed out!
Here are the 'highlights' of this year.

Enjoy!

January:

New Years Day. Annual tradition of a walk on the beach in Dana Point, Ca- rain or shine! Brrrr...it was cold!

Dyllan all set for a winter backpacking weekend with his Boy Scout troop!

February:

With the help of fellow Scouts, Dyllan got a head start on his Eagle project- building a 3 compartment compost bins using 80% wooden pallets.

March & April:

Project is finished!

Delivery day with friends to help!
This was for the Capistrano Restorative Garden and Learning Center.

Installing the Eagle plaque.

Now that the project was done, it was time to turn in the Eagle application paperwork!

May:

In May, we attended Dyllan's aging out ceremony. It was a little bit bittersweet, but happily not the end as he doesn't "officially" age-out until he turns 18.
Still, its a lot of heartfelt scouting to look back on.

With Mentor & Scout Master Jamel Halaby

Dyllan's last Youth Bowling League awards ceremony
with coaches Jim and Rob at Irvine Lanes!

Class of 2022 Senior Prom at the Bowers Museum in Santa, Ana.
Handsome boys! Best friends from Elementary School and Scouts.

We are freaking proud of Dyllan!
At the ANHS Senior awards ceremony, he received a Valedictorian medal for a 4.12 GPA, a Seal of Biliteracy Recognition medal for 4 years of Spanish and a gold tassel which he will add to his white cap and gown on graduation!

Also after months of asking....I was granted a bookshelf to place in the staff lounge at the school where I work and stock it with books and other reading material for the school employees as a "unofficial" Little Free Library.

June:

Whoo Hoo! Dyllan Graduates from Aliso Niguel High School!
Class of 2022!

So proud of this kid! Look at that happy happy smile!

Graduation party in our garage plus fun and games!

The following week, Dyllan and his classmates enjoyed their Grad-Night festivities
at Disney's California Adventure!

Then is was on to Camp Verde, AZ for a Cummings Family Reunion.
It was definitely hot in Arizona. On a average it was 106*!
Not something we are used to in California.
Dyllan and I visited the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, AZ, mainly to see the gorgeous Chihuly glass art on display.

Then when things started heating up, we left and were surprised to come across our favorite Italian Ice place, Joes's! Just in time too as the outside temp in Phoenix was a whopping 113*!
The only other Joes we know of is in Anaheim, near Disneyland.
To beat the heat, some family members took Dyllan and other cousins to a river to cool off.
Later in the evening, Brian took everyone to a nearby bowling alley.

Here's a photo of our fairly 'cool' tent cabin that we stayed in at Camp Verde.
When we got home, I gave Dyllan a early Birthday gift of a new surfboard and we spent a 'cool' and refreshing day at the beach!

July:

As one of the SPL (Senior Patrol Leaders) for the Boy Scout troop, Dyllan was asked to come up one week early (for a all expense paid leadership training) before the rest of his troop arrived for camp the following week. This was a huge honor but that meant he would be at summer camp for two weeks (not one) and that I would need to drive him up to camp which was about a 8 hour drive from home. So we made a road trip out of it. Arriving in Berkley to visit Family, Steve and Christie for a couple of days.

Then on to Camp Hi-Sierra in Longbarn, Ca.
He has everything he needs for two weeks including a cot and his ukulele.

Here are some photos from his two weeks at camp......

After dropping Dyllan off at camp, I went further north to Cloverdale and visited with my  Uncle Ray for a few days.
Then even further north to visit with my Uncle Walter in Whitethorn for little over a week. My brother John and his wife Janice came down from Eureka and stayed a few days making for a nice visit.
I wanted to be home in time for when Dyllan came home with the troop from summer camp, so I began the long trek home, stopping to say bye to Uncle Ray in Cloverdale and then spending the night in Berkley with Steve and Christie before the long drive home to Aliso Viejo.
Dyllan and troop made it home safe and sound in time
for Dyllan to celebrate his 18th Birthday!
