The stuff of legends.

And a happy new year. I won't do a recap of 2013 this year since I didn't do enough blog posts to justify one. It was a strange year for us, a lot of things changed. The biggest one was our lifestyle and our province. Let's move on, move forward because we aren't getting any younger!

Christmas was very relaxing this year. Just being around the family felt good. For a couple of years we enjoyed a peaceful couples-only Christmas with friends. Now we're back to two turkey dinners in one day and I won't complain about it. The boys were pretty stoked on Christmas too, they got the new-fangled Wii U they really wanted and I think Graeme really enjoyed the Adventure Time costumer set. I also learned that Cameron met and has a signed photo of the Mr. Hadfield, which turns Auntie Krista into Auntie Jealous.

I was a kid during the ice storm of '98 and it was a lot better than I remember it. School was cancelled so we huddled in the living room and played board games and read books all day. I read Treasure Island cover to cover and big brother Drew took us driving against our parents wishes. It was kind of exciting back then and it became a tale worthy of telling your grand kids. Now I had something crazy happen "back in my day", something I could tell the story to my BC friends who never been stuck in their homes because of ice before.
.

The ice storm made these usually nasty looking apples into art. You have to learn to appreciate the little things when ice chunks are falling from the sky.

I've been walking around town thinking about the past and wondering if I've come full circle. Then I look to see Mario and Sonic walking across the street and I stop thinking so many deep thoughts and just think about video games.

I took myself out on the windiest of days to the lake. I had the idea that all of those ice chunks on the water would make for a pretty picture. I couldn't get very close to the water because of the ice. I wasn't about to risk a broken ass or camera.

But not all of us are afraid of a little cold. I forgot how beastly the Kingston squirrels are. A species of their very own.

Going out on the coldest days gives me the excuse to get a giant vanilla latte. All of that hard work lugging my camera around leaves me with no energy, you know? The ice storm isn't as fun as I remember it as a child. Suddenly all of those downed power lines and late buses affect me now.

Still though, all of this ice has it's charm. It's only making the daydreams of summer sun seem more and more amazing.
