Willkommen zurück: Nach 29 Jahren macht das Pop-Trio Bananarama wieder gemeinsame Sache. Die drei Musikerinnen, die mehr als 40 Millionen Platten verkauft und die achtziger Jahre maßgeblich mitgeprägt haben, kehren direkt mit einer UK-Tour zurück.

Es ist schon Ein Paar Montage her, seit Keren Woodward, Sara Dallin und Siobhan Fahey das letzte Mal gemeinsam auf einer Bühne standen: 1988 war das, bei den Brit Awards. Der letzte Höhepunkt einer musikalischen Reise, die sechs Jahre andauerte, und Mit Dem Ausstieg Siobhan Faheys nach bandinternen Querelen endete. Fahey fand anschließend mit dem Chart-Act Shakespears Sister ebenfalls großen Erfolg.

Offenbar hat das Trio nun seine Differenzen hinter sich gelassen und eine gemeinsame UK-Tour bestätigt. Die Tickets gehen schon in dieser Woche in den Verkauf.

Die Reunion steht wohl schon seit ein paar Wochen fest, jedoch wurde ein großes Geheimnis darum gemacht. Sara: “We first had a chat about it over Christmas and before we knew it the whole thing snowballed. Keren and I called Siobhan to chat about it and things went from there.”

Siobhan fügt hinzu: “By the time I managed to come over to talk about it, somehow it had become a done deal, the dates had been scheduled and we had a photoshoot arranged. It’s pretty nerve wracking for me, it was 29 years ago that I left so I’m rusty to say the least. I didn’t say ‘yes’ immediately, I was in complete shock but my heart felt a sense of absolute joy and I just felt it was the right time in my life. Emotionally it felt like something I needed to revisit, to go back to my roots and that time with my best friends. We’re going to go back and celebrate that extraordinary life we led together in our twenties.”

Und ja, die Band war damals mega-erfolgreich. Zehn Bananarama-Singles erreichten die Top Ten der britischen Charts darunter heute noch bekannte Nummern wie „Cruel Summer“, „Venus“, „Love In The First Degree“ und „Robert De Niro’s Waiting“.

Keren: “In some ways it feels like a lifetime ago, but in others it feels like only yesterday. Our first rehearsal together is this week. It will be a celebration of the years we were together, rather than us trying to do new music. It’s when we had all our biggest hits and really had a lot of fun. We’ve still got time to plan the tour because it doesn’t launch until November but we’ve had a few early discussions and know that we’re going to be doing all of the greatest hits and more. We haven’t quite decided what that ‘more’ is going to be, yet – but it’s exciting.”
