Math Olympiad is one of the most important Olympiads as math is the mother of sciences and every subject that you pursue will need you to do math in today’s world.

Students should focus on studying from the IMO class 8 previous year question paper, as it will assist them to understand the concepts and topics easily.

The remaining half an hour must be used for solving puzzles. These puzzles help in the development of the brain and create an interest in problem-solving in students.

The students while solving problems get into a habit of deep thinking which increases their skills and makes them efficient problem solvers with continuous practice in solving puzzles.

Step 1: The preparation must be started at least 2 months before the exam which gives them enough time to prepare systematically. 2 hours need to be devoted each day. 1.5 hours for concept and practice along with 0.5 hours of solving puzzles.

Step 2: Discipline is of utmost importance to the road to cracking Olympiads. Step 1 won’t matter if the student is not consistent and doesn’t give time to the Olympiad preparation every day. The method is to make a routine for the whole day and in that routine out the 2 hours that are required for the Olympiad preparation. That routine must be followed every day.

Step 3: Buy sample papers, books and books for tricks that can be used for self-study by the student.

Step 4: While solving problems a stopwatch must be used to check the time and to decrease the time that is used to solve the problems.

Step 5: The student should sign up for only the test series of the coaching institutes and should give one test every week.

Step 6: The rank test score should be analyzed and see the strong topics and the weak ones. The weak topics must be worked on, and those topics should then become a part of the strengths.

Step 7: Take some days off to relax, put those rest days in the routine and take those days to just rest and clear your mind

The Importance Of Giving Continuous Tests Through The Institutes Is That:

  • Students get into a habit of giving texts continuously and therefore you get accustomed to the exam environment and the time limit of the examination
  • The institutes give a rank to the students as there are a lot of students appearing for the same exam and therefore a student gets to know their position in the competition
  • The results give the students a chance to analyze their strengths and weakness and act accordingly

Sometimes doing nothing can also be a very important thing as it can help you clear a student’s mind and prevent the burnout that can be harmful to their health. The rest of the days must be incorporated into the routine, and they are as important as the preparation itself.

Finally, the focus must be the Olympiads instead of the school curriculum math as if a student is preparing efficiently for the Olympiad, then that student will by default do well in the school curriculum.

The focus should be clear, and it should be on cracking the Olympiad rather than trying to balance school and Olympiad.
