Is TikTok's Perfume-Steamer Hack the Secret to Smelling Good All Day?

I love to smell good. In fact, aside from makeup, fragrance is my favorite beauty category. I thoroughly believe it's like an invisible accessory that brings a look together like no other wardrobe staple can. Therefore, it shouldn't be a surprise that when it comes to smelling good for longer, I'm willing to do just about anything - including try some slightly unhinged hacks floating around the internet.

In a now-viral video, TikToker Warren Tafah sprays Perfume into a cup of water and pours the liquid into an iron. "POV: Cologne is the silent introduction to your presence a way to leave a memorable first impression," the caption reads. While I fully agree with the note, I have never in my life seen someone put perfume into an iron and use it to steam scent onto their clothes. I immediately thought this was either about to be the greatest idea ever or I might burn my kitchen down. Because I'll do anything for the plot (and I have renter's insurance), I had to try it.

To start, I took my steamer - the Beautural Garment Steamer ($25, originally $35) - and filled the liquids container with water. Then, to make sure I gave the hack a fair chance, I also sprayed in 10 pumps of one of the headiest perfumes I own: Tom Ford Myrrhe Mystere ($250). Even though the container was closed, I could still smell the mixture, so I figured I'd used enough. I slid the water stopper back into place and turned on the steamer to heat up my concoction.

Once I could see steam coming out of the device, I took one of my boyfriend's T-shirts (sorry, babe) and proceeded to generously steam the entirety of the shirt. After I did the front and back once, I gave it a sniff and didn't notice the scent of the perfume. To make sure I did it right, I went over the shirt one more time. This time, I also let it air out for a few minutes before I went back to do another sniff test. After the second round, I lightly smelled the perfume, but it was so faint, I could barely distinguish between the spicy notes of mehr and the familiar smell of laundry detergent.

At that point, I decided to call it quits because not only do I rarely iron my clothes, but I would also never go out of my way to steam a T-shirt three times. As someone who's always running late, having to do anything multiple times when I'm rushing to get through the door just isn't the type of girl math I practice.

In all, the idea behind this hack is smart, but it simply doesn't make sense to do in practice. The perfume, which normally only takes two to three sprays onto the body to really turn heads, could barely be smelled on the shirt, and it felt like I was well on my way to steaming a hole into the fabric before actually achieving scent-infused threads. Sadly, this hack is going to get a no from me.
